Description
Organized by Union Veterans in April, 1865 “To keep alive that kindly and cordial feeling which has been one of the characteristics of this army during its career in the service.” The major features of this medal are the 40 Rounds cartridge box representing the 15th Corps, the Arrow representing the 17th Corps, the number 13 representing the 13th Corps, and the cross representing the 16th Corps. The eagle depicted on the medal may be “Old Abe” aka “The War Eagle” or, as the Rebels called him, “The Yankee Buzzard”. The overall length of the beautiful, museum quality reproduction is appx. 3” (77mm) and the with is appx. 1 ¼ (32mm) across.
